‘If I were going there, I wouldn’t start from here.’

My new novel is set mostly in Crete out-of-season. It’s an extraordinarily beautiful volcanic island, where every random stone paved an ancient civilization and where the inhabitants have the grace and humility of people who’ve seen it all before. It seemed to be the perfect setting for what is becoming an edgy, anxious thriller with one rather anxious, shy heroine who takes on the task of whistle- blowing in a dangerous world. This novel is different in tone to Rules for Thursday Lovers. That was a study of ownership and funny. This is a study of consequences and I hope it to be absorbing and thoughtful as well as occasionally funny.

I’m aiming to finish Out of Season this summer. (The title might change) And look forward to you reading it.
